Stories are lit by the passion of people who love what they do. My job is to catch the spark.

University Experience

At the University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) in Ann Arbor, I served on the Communications Team from mid-2016 to early 2022—when I transitioned to a freelance relationship with the school several months after relocating to Taos, New Mexico.

As a member of the staff and subsequently as a freelancer, I produced features and cover stories for the SEAS alumni magazine, Stewards, and held roles as associate editor and editor of the magazine.

Naturally, the scope of my work also includes the day-to-day business of communications, such as crafting press releases, web stories, copywriting, and marketing materials.

All of my projects at SEAS—whatever the scale—are rooted in the goal of creating a more just, and sustainable world. That may sound like the school’s tagline, but I nevertheless find it to be true. I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to work with leading climate scientists, conservationists, and pioneers in environmental justice—and am grateful for all that I have learned from them in the process of researching and writing their stories.

The decade before…

Prior to my time in Ann Arbor, I wrote feature stories for the Miamian, the alumni magazine of Miami University in Ohio. I also served as the primary communications consultant at the university’s School for Education, Health, and Society—launching and maintaining the school’s social media platform, and writing content for web and print.

A note on video production: At both universities, I produced online videos that featured students, faculty, and alumni in a documentary-style format. In total, I completed more than 600 videos that were showcased on the universities’ sites. Several of the videos I produced appear on the Selected Features pages—where they were included to accompany the story. If you’re interested in seeing more, thanks for visiting the Video Galleries links below. From my current location in New Mexico, I continue to perform video editing remotely.

OFF CAMPUS

My work has appeared in national publications such as Troika and the Washington D.C. based online publication Connect For Kids, as well as New Mexico Magazine and other regional publications in the Southwest. News outlets have included The Cincinnati Herald, The Cincinnati Enquirer, and The Taos News. Essays have been published in the Travelers’ Tales anthology series: Women in the Wild and A Mother’s World, and the literary journal, Chokecherries.
